William Orbit (1956 - 2026) Another sad farewell.

Today I was saddened to learn of the passing of William on July 23rd.

Over the years, I had the privilege of photographing him on several occasions for magazines, press, and most memorably for the album cover Pieces in a Modern Style.

I was especially touched to work with William for his rendition of Adagio for Strings. Platoon has always been one of my favourite films, and that piece of music has carried a particularly powerful place in my memory as I now know many US veterans. To then photograph the man behind such a beautiful interpretation was a moment I had to not gush about.

Like his music, he had a quiet confidence about him. There was never any unnecessary fuss, just a simple, thoughtful approach that made photographing him a pleasure.
